Out and About

Mother swan and her four cygnets
Always so touching to see on the lake.

The month of May seemed more rainy than usual with rather few really beautiful days,
but I did get out and take photos when the weather was sunny and dry.
So I have some photos from the sunny days in May that I still would like to remember
through my blog!

These water Iris were just starting to come into bloom.

Mother's Day is on the second Sunday in the month of May
and I received this beautiful bouquet from my son.

I met up with my daughter and grandson.
We had a lovely lunch together at home and then went for a walk down by the lake.

The Lilac bushes were in full bloom in my neighbourhood and my evening walks
were filled with their fragrance.

The deep purple flowers seemed to have a particularly lovely scent.

On one of the sunny warm days, it was lovely to walk along the edge of the forest
for coolness. The moss was so prettily illuminated by the filtered sunlight.

I do love to see the Chestnut Trees in flower.

I love collecting conkers too in the autumn!

Birthday collage.
My birthday falls in the middle of the month of May.
Three of my birthday cards, a gorgeous Peony flower and a picture
by Loretta Grayson entitled "Still I Rise"
I love her art.

Some beautiful pastel roses in memory of someone important in my life
for May 27th.

The Rhododendrens have put on a beautiful show of colourful flowers

They look especially lovely against a blue sky.

Or behind some railings.

The Dogwood flowers stayed in bloom for a long time.

I love seeing red poppies growing in the long grasses.

I even passed some sheep enjoying the luscious long grass when I climbed the hill from the station
to visit my daughter who lives out of the town centre.

A collage of my balcony flowers:
Blue Campanula, Daisies, Asters, Osteospermum, Bidens and the tiny lavender stalks
not quite in bloom.

My latest crochet project which is a lovely pattern from

It is called 'Mitered Blossom Dishcloth,
but I think it makes a really pretty mug mat.
The loop can be useful to hang it up on a hook in the kitchen.

    1. So lovely to have you visit, Astri. I love getting out and about in my area and nearby little towns, so easy to get to with very short train rides! Yes, my grandson is a young adult now - how fast those childhood years go by!

I love making your latest pattern and it has inspired me to make gifts for friends and family!

  3. Looks like May was a lovely month for you, Sandra! Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday--yours must be near my dear mother's who would have turned 94 on May 14th. My mother-in-law turned 93 on May 15th. How nice that you are getting to see your daughter and grandson again--my, he is a tall guy!

Lovely, lovely blooms and a beautiful blue and white mug rug! I especially love the flowers shot against that blue, blue sky of yours. Hope your June is warmer--we have been very chilly here, but things are warming up. After all--it is summer :) Enjoy your day ♥

    1. Thank you for your kind wishes. I only put up one blog entry in May, so I still wanted to remember all the lovely days that took place in that month! My birthday is on May 15th, so the same day as your mother-in-law! May is a lovely month to have a birthday!

The flowers have been so beautiful, especially the flowering bushes. Our month of June suddenly got very hot indeed with rather high humidity. The hottest in my area was 31C (87.8F) which luckily didn't last long, but culminated in a series of storms and heavy rain and flooding in some parts of the country. Now the temperatures are much more comfortable between 20-24C.

  4. Your lovely post reminded me of those cooler days in May! Heat and humidity have arrived and it's hard to even go outside! The Rhododendrons are spectacular against the sky. My favorite is the one with the fence in front. I like your idea of using your pretty crocheted piece as a mug rug. It is so pretty. Happy belated birthday to you! I know your day was celebrated well!

    1. Thanks so much, Cathy, for your kind wishes! We've had a mixed b ag of weather in June so far! Cooler days to start off with, them a heatwave with high humidity, then a build-up of storms with even more humidty and for the past week, we've had deliciously cooler temperatures around 20-24C (68-75.2F) which I just love!

I making some of those crocheted mug mats/rugs to give as gifts and it's fun matching them up with different mugs
