Nature reminds us that the autumn equinox is fast approaching.
The berries are ripening and the leaves are changing.
We are getting more rain after a very hot and dry summer,
but everything looks so fresh and colourful, thanks to the changing of the season.
Fallen leaves are starting to appear everywhere
Seedpods are forming on the flowers, like on this cone flower.
Lichen and fungus are growing on tree trunks
showing us their own kind of beauty
Raindrops glisten
A recent walk down by the lake shows the late blooming flowers
A tiny aster blooms on my balcony
The last dahlia buds have opened in the last few days of brilliant sunshine
and an autumn rose blooms in a neighbouring garden.
But the plums are ripe and perfect for making tarts,
like this traditional one I made yesterday, for the Jeûne Fédéral holiday,
which is always on the third Monday of September
in the canton of Vaud where I live.
The collage shows the different stages of the tart making.
The plums are dark purple in colour. They need a little sweetening
with Sucanat, a natural brown cane sugar.
I make my own shortcrust pastry from a recipe by Julia Child.
I hope that you are also taking pleasure in the joys of the season!
Your pie looks amazing! And such beautiful delights.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fi. Yes, autumn is full of delights!!
ReplyDeleteWe still need rain. I hope we don't get it all in October.
ReplyDeleteI love the beauty that rain brings to nature. I don't mind when it comes, which is just as well, because it comes when it will. Weather patterns have become so irregular now, we never know quite what to expect. I do know that on each exceptionally beautiful day, I just drop everything and get out to take in all the lovely moments!
DeleteAutumn... ah well, it had to come, right? I do like the autumn colours, all those heartwarming, earthy colours, but when it comes to those grey and gloomy days on which dence fogs steal all light and colours... Urgh...
ReplyDeleteI love the beauty that autumn brings, like all the recent captures above. As for the grey and gloomy days, light a candle, put on some music you love and take out your loveliest and most colourful crochet and then the greyest day takes on warmth and colour and you feel happy!
DeleteI certainly am taking pleasure in the autumnal joys. Thanks for showing more of your wonderful photography.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sarn xxx
Thanks, Sarn. The colours are so beautiful right now, even before the leaves really start changing drastically. I just love the transition!
DeleteI love the beautiful rich colors of fall. The flowers by the lake is my favorite image today! Would love to be there! Your tart looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy. The colours of the season are among my favourite too! That day down by the lake was sublime. Everything was scintillating and lovely! This is the season for fruit tarts as well! The aromas of autumn!
DeleteOoooo, this plum tart looks delicious, Sandra, and your early fall photographs are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt look like you are having a very colorful beginning of fall.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Thank you, Lisa. Yes our autumn is a mixture of seasonal colours and late summer ones all mingling together!
DeleteOh that tart looks amazing!Did you add anything else... like a sauce or glaze before baking it?
ReplyDeleteLovely autumny photos!
Thanks, Tammie! No sauce or glaze on the fruit tart. I just spread a few tablespoons of ground almonds on the pastry base before I add the fruit so that soaks up the juice of the plums very nicely and the pastry stays crisp underneath. I also added a couple of tablespoons of Sucanat, which is raw brown cane sugar, to the fruit before baking.
DeleteYour plum tart is beautifully perfect, and looks delicious...as do all your colors of autumn.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lee. The colours are gorgeous now as late summer slips into autumn and even the tart has taken on an autumn glow!
DeleteA mouth watering plum tart. Especially in view of the fact I am currently staying in a home where dessert is a rarity.
ReplyDeleteMs Soup
Thank you! You could always make a fruit tart yourself if you have use of the kitchen!
DeleteYou've really compiled an amazing collection of fall photographs, Sandra. And, that tart looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to have you visit, Kim! We are experiencing wonderful transitioning days as summer allows autumn to blow our way in a flurry of colourful fallen leaves! The lighting is so superb and yes, it's so nice to bake a fruit tart that seems to go with the season!
DeleteThe change of seasons is lovely where you live! The photograph down by the lake (with flowers in foreground) takes my breath away! I could stand there for hours. Thank you for taking us with you! ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Marcie. This is a fabulous time of the year where autumn and late summer give the best of themselves for our greatest joy!
