Autumn in Lausanne

The month of October has been very sunny and very warm
with temperatures in the low to mid twenties.
I think that my favourite colours has been the golden leaves against the blue
of that clear, autumn sky.

My computer has been giving me lots of trouble, working very slowly indeed
and freezing often. I have been disheartened to put up a new blog entry for October
before today.
I have very many photographs and will spread them out over several weeks.

One tiny leaf that left the tree and got entangled in a spider's web.

Fallen leaves on the windscreen of a car below.
The reflection of the tree above is reflected in the glass.

The Ginkgo Biloba Tree down in the Mon Repos Lausanne Park
is startingto get its golden colours.

Look at their beautiful fan-shape and golden tones highlighted by the sunshine.

These joyful yellow Heliopsis flowers grow near my building.
They are also called Oxeye Sunflowers.

The Tulip Trees have quickly turned to golden yellow
are now taking on a very coppery, burnished look.

Such a pretty shape to the leaves

Looking good against the evergreens in the park.

In my neighbourhood

I have so enjoyed all our beautiful blue skies this month.

Lausanne Cathedral taken from the big market place.
I usually do my marketing for fresh fruit and vegetables on Saturdays.

A collage of October colours.
The pink Windflowers/Anemone are still blooming.

I crocheted four little pumpkins and took them for a walk down to the park.
They seemed to settle in well among the fallen Tulip Tree leaves
showing up nicely against the dark trunk of the tree.

This month, I made a small lap blanket to give to a friend for Christmas.
I've called this one 'Cosy Winter Blanket'.

The edging.

I still need to finish making several other crocheted gifts.
My fingers are kept very busy during these longer evenings
now that we have put the clocks back for the winter months.

Today, Monday 31st October is All Hallows Eve.
It is a day to remember our departed loved ones, to light a candle in their memory
and also to take flowers to the cemetery.
The first day of November is known as All Saints' Day or All Hallows' Day.

There were so many marvellous cloud shapes one afternoon
and I enjoyed making this collage of the prettiest ones.

I shall be doing another blog entry fairly soon to catch up with showing all my saved photos!

  1. Sorry to hear you’ve had computer problems Sandra. Such a nuisance when they go wrong/slow. If you store all your photographs on the computer, it may be that there’s not much memory space left. You could try deleting a load of them, or moving them to a separate hard drive.

As usual, this is a lovely post with wonderful photos. Your pumpkins are fabulous, as is the lap blanket. Xxx

    1. Thanks, Sarn. I know that there isn't a huge amount of space left on my computer for all my photos. I must definitely move the ones I want to keep on an external hard drive! Thanks for reminding me! Doing anything at all on internet at the moment is extremely laborious! Always lovely to have you visit! x

  2. Hello Sandra, sorry to hear about your computer problems. I always go crazy when my compu does not work like I want.
Again wonderful pics and I think this autumn is very special. Very warm, still today. I could sit on the terrace nearly every day.
The colors of the leaves were green for a long time and then they changed very fast here in my area. It was great to look at them when the sun was shining.
Your crochet looks beautiful. I like the colors of the blanket. The pumpinks are very cute.
Have a grat week and warm wishes till next time.

    1. Hello Gabi! I agree that computer problems are extremely frustrating! This autumn has been very special with above-average temperatures and wonderful leaves in all their glorious colours. Next time I'll putting up photos of all the reds and oranges!
I am very busy crocheting more things to give as gifts and some things for decorations.

  3. It looks like you've had a lovely October, Sandra. I, too, love the bright golden leaves against a vivid blue sky. Your photos perfectly depict autumn at its finest. We are having very warm weather here--in fact it is going to be in the high 70s (25C) this weekend.

Those little crocheted pumpkins are the cutest--they make me wish I knew how to crochet. And your blanket is lovely. I wish you a lovely November ahead (and good luck fixing your computer issues!). ♥

    1. Thank you for your kind comments, Carol. We've been having a beautiful autumn, but now the temperatures need to cool off a little as nature needs to go to sleep soon!
I really enjoyed making those little pumpkins!

  4. Yes, a lovely autumn you have had. Ours looks very similar with sunny warm days and gorgeous colors. Now we are under a deep blanket of snow even though autumn leaves are still on many trees. The other day on IG, all my info was on the left of the page and where it usually is. i thought of you. Then it went back to normal.

  5. Ciao Sandra, nice to read you. Our computer dead definitely last summer and we lost lots of things. In particular my children, you can imagine.
I like all your pictures, those of the sky too much and your crocheted pumpkins and your blue bottles.
    Have a nice week end,
    Miriam

  6. Hello Miriam, so lovely to have you visit. That's so devastating when our computers break down completely. It's important to back up photos regularly on an external hard-drive.
I'm glad you liked the clouds, they were so marvellous to look at! My turquoise blue bottles look pretty with candlelight shining on them. I keep marbles in the bigger one. There will be more crochet next time as I'm busy making gifts!
