I've always loved having my birthday in the month of May
It's in the springtime which is my favourite time of the year.
Rituals are created
and the main one consists of having breakfast out!
If the weather is warm and sunny, an outside terrace down by the lake
is the very best place to be!
A basket of assorted breads and croissants,
a freshly squeezed juice and a good coffee.
If a pretty birthday card is presented, it is put on show like this one.
Here is my favourite birthday breakfast outside terrace under white parasols.
It's at the Hôtel d'Angleterre.
After a leisurely breakfast,
a long walk along the lake in Ouchy
admiring water reflections on the way.
The weather-vane shows that a light north-easterly wind is blowing
and that's just perfect to keep the clouds at bay and the weather fine.
A beautiful steam-boat glides by on tranquil waters.
I laughed to see the formation of fluffy white clouds
as if they were escaping from the boat's chimney!
We walk past sandy beaches and see the outline of the mountains
on the French side of the lake.
Just the right amount of breeze for this little sailing boat.
The furthermost tip of the coastline is where we're going to have lunch
in the village of St-Sulpice.
The walk from Lausanne takes about two hours at a leisurely pace.
This is the view from above the village
before taking a bus and metro back home again.
A special birthday cake that was waiting for me:
Chocolate Truffle with fresh raspberries within the mousse-like filling!
It wouldn't be the month of May without my favourite flowers:
Lily of the Valley
Hydrangeas
and gorgeous peonies.
If your birthday is also in the month of May
perhaps you love these flowers too.
If not, I'm sure you have favourite things from your month of birth!
In the weather vane photo it looks like rock has been cut away for a better view!
ReplyDeleteStunnng photos. Absolutely beautiful!
Thanks, Sandi. Down by the lake, just opposite the weather-vane, there are several walls built with different cut-outs. Each one represents the name of each wind that blows in this area. That particular day, it was the north-easterly wind called "La Bise", which was blowing. That's why the weather-vane fit the cut-out so perfectly!
DeleteA belated "Happy birthday to you!", dear Sandra!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely pictures, such a lovely day, and I wouldn't mind a bit of that cake either... My birthday is in November. Cannot think of any November flowers but my favourites are ranunculus and freesia, along with lilac. I love Lily of the Valley too, haven't managed growing them in the garden yet though - maybe I've just not found the right place to do so.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful day with us!
Marjan
Thank you for your birthday wishes, Marjan! That cake was pretty delicious! I find that there is always something special that we like to see or do in our birth month. It doesn't need to be flowers, it could be going to the theatre or a concert or a favourite art museum. There are so many things that we can link on what we love to do at specific times of the year!
DeleteWhat a wonderful way to spend your birthday! The photos are a great way to see your day as it happens!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary! A wonderful quiet day in nature to celebrate my birthday. It's what I really love! Though near a source of water makes the day extra special when the weather is so lovely!

Thank you for your wishes, Lissa. Good dreams and delicious cake sound like excellent wishes! I think that every month can be beautiful in its own special way. I love the spring season so much and therefore May is perfect for me!
DeleteYour May birthday was a beautiful one! Such a lovely walk you too along the lake. Your birthday cake looks delicious and so pretty! My birthday is in June, which makes me think of heat and humidity, but the roses are always blooming to celebrate!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cathy. Yes, it was a lovely birthday indeed and just the right temperature, around 23C! In June, you have wonderful roses to celebrate your day of birth!
DeleteHappy birthday, Sandra! What excellent plans for your day. The climate and nature conspired to offer you a perfect and bright May day for your birthday, as I can see in your wonderful photographs. My birthday is in March, but here the weather begins to get warmer a little earlier (Canary Islands). It happens that the almond tree is still in bloom, but I can already find lilacs, peonies, hyacinths. And the geranium blooms all year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this wonderful day with us! xxx
How nice to see you visit my little world over here! Thank you for your wishes! The Canary Islands must be a beautiful place to live! A March birthday is lovely as it's when nature is really starting to wake up - and even more so because of where you live! I've never seen almond tree blossom. It must be beautiful!
DeleteOh, it looks like you had a wonderful birthday and a nice LONG walk.
ReplyDeleteYou like good things, yum, and beauty and fresh air. I agree, May is a very nice month to be born in. My son was born the end of May.
Wishing you a lovely new year Sandra!
Thank you, Tammie Lee. Yes, I like beauty and fresh air and I especially love being out in nature to escape from the city environment for as long as possible! So your son was a May baby too! Thank you for your kind wishes!

ReplyDeleteHugs, Sarn xxx
Thanks, Sarn! Just noticed your visit here! Yes, that special cake was quite a feast and the nice part is that it's very light and not sickly or cloying (you know what I mean!) It's rather mousse-like inside, dotted with fresh raspberries! If you come this way one day, we'll go and get one!!!
DeleteLovely Pictures! I always feel happiness in May with everything blooming and the wonderful smells being released. You do live in a beautiful part of the world. Happy belated birthday! I hope you and your loved ones are well.
